Reports

Please find below material regarding scientific report writing

For experiments carried out in teams, each participant must submit their own report. This means:
  • Everyone analyses the data independently.
  • Everyone carries out an independent error analysis.
  • Everyone writes the report independently.
If similar reports are submitted, they might be rejected by the teaching assistant! Please see also the section about plagiarism below.

Writing Lab Reports in P3/P4

Have a look at the guidelines by Prof. Thomas Ihn (in German) or the article Karie Friedman (Editor of ''Reviews of Modern Physics'').

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is an unauthorised copy or adoption of (parts of) another work without this being explicitly stated. ETH Zurich is extremely strict with regard to plagiarism. In the physics lab course, cheating on lab reports is assessed in the same way as cheating on an examination. You should therefore familiarise yourself with the applicable guidelines and rules of ETH. We also recommend to look at the ETH Zurich Citation Guidelines.

Artificial Intelligence

Content that is created with the help of artificial intelligence (A.I., sometimes also LLM) must be declared as such. There are currently no strict guidelines, but this will certainly change in the future. It therefore makes sense to communicate as openly and transparently as possible when and how A.I. has been used. More information on this can be found on the Website of ETH regarding "scientific integrity".
